Clinic Policies

At Lucy Frew Naturopath, herbal prescriptions are based on an individual assessment of your health, symptoms, medical history and current circumstances. Herbal medicine is not a one-size-fits-all treatment, and your prescription may need to change as your health changes.

Initial consultations

An initial consultation is required before commencing herbal treatment. This allows for a thorough assessment of your presenting concerns, relevant health history, medications or supplements, and any appropriate pathology or test results.

Your herbal prescription is then individually formulated based on your clinical presentation at that time.

Repeat prescriptions

Repeat herbal prescriptions may be provided without a further consultation where appropriate and where there has been no significant change in your health or treatment.

However, herbal prescriptions are not automatically ongoing. Before continuing treatment, it is important to periodically review your progress and ensure that your prescription remains appropriate.

Review consultations

A review consultation will generally be required if:

  • More than [insert timeframe — e.g. 3 or 6 months] has passed since your last consultation.

  • Your symptoms have significantly changed.

  • You have developed a new health concern or diagnosis.

  • You have undergone further testing or investigations that may affect your treatment.

  • You have commenced or changed medications or other significant treatments.

  • Your practitioner considers that a review is clinically necessary before continuing or altering your herbal prescription.

During a review consultation, we can assess your progress, discuss any new information or test results, and determine whether your current formula remains appropriate or requires adjustment.

Why are reviews necessary?

Herbal medicine involves more than simply repeating a previous formula. Your prescription is based on your individual health picture, which can change over time.

Regular reviews allow your practitioner to:

  • Assess how you have responded to treatment.

  • Monitor changes in your symptoms and overall health.

  • Review relevant test results or medical information.

  • Consider any changes to medications, supplements or other treatments.

  • Determine whether your current herbal prescription should be continued, adjusted or changed.

This helps ensure that your treatment remains appropriate for your current needs.

Our commitment to your care

Our aim is to provide thoughtful, individualized and professionally appropriate care. For this reason, the practitioner may require a review consultation at any time before issuing a further herbal prescription.

Thank you for understanding that consultation and clinical review are an important part of safe and individualized herbal medicine treatment.
